RELOCATING YOUR PIANO WITH OUR PROFESSIONAL MOVER

PIANO MOVING FAQ

For grand pianos we use five heavy moving pads to wrap the piano entirely as a first layer.  We then wrap it in a grand bag which is a hand sewn leather and canvas cover, custom fit with straps and handles.  The grand bag is to avoid damage and make sure moisture does not reach the piano.

For vertical style pianos we first wrap the piano in two heavy pads before loading.  Once the piano is in the truck it gets two more heavy pads applied to completely wrap the piano before securing it in place. All pianos are checked for loose parts, removed, and wrapped individually when needed.

Moving a piano actually has less of an effect on the tune of a piano than you think.  It is the change in humidity between the dwelling, the truck, and the new location that causes a piano to become out of tune.  Of course traveling down a bumpy road doesn’t help things, but the main factor is humidity.

The pin block, bridge, and the sound board are all made of wood which is highly susceptible to the effects of humidity.  However, pianos are designed to be moved and after a short time of sitting in the new destination (around two weeks or so) the piano will acclimate and be ready for tuning.

The cost of moving a piano can vary due to the following factors:

  1. 1. Type of Piano
  2. 2. Distance being moved
  3. 3. Difficulty level due to stairs, grass pulls, tight turns, etc.
  4. 4. Number of people required to move piano due to difficulty level
  5. 5. Time restraints placed on move during the daytime of year (season)
  6. 6. Waiting time that you might incur on the mover
